If you are creating a new WordPress website to replace an older one, I highly recommend the Redirection Plug In.  Here is why.  Whether you realize it or not, the search engines index your sites.  This means that they keep track of your site and how many people go to certain pages.   If you create a new site, some of the information can be lost.  Friends and family members or even other websites may have also linked to your site.  If people will get  an error message when they head to your site.  However, it doesn’t have to.

Redirection helps you avoid all these problems because it is simple way to create 301 Redirection notices.   These 301 notices inform search engines and browsers that the page they were looking for has now been replaced with this new address.  For example, CrossWay Church’s Core Values used to be found at www.crosswaychurchwa.com/CoreValues.html the new page is now http://www.crosswaychurchwa.com/about/core-values/.  If someone tries to log onto the old link, they will automatically be brought to the new page and their bookmarks or links will be updated.

This may sound complicated, but it is easy to do.
